POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for coordinating all reporting and verification of accuracy regarding the Capital Budgeting process in both US and Mexico. Understands the Capital projects, variances of the projects, and is consultative regarding risks and opportunities of the plan as well as contributory to the efficiency of the overall plan and its impact to KCS goals. Meets regularly with department managers as well as company executives to ensure proper visibility of projects and progression towards completion. Ensures compliance with capital policy and documented process controls for audit. Prepares monthly/quarterly reports to convey Capital Plan outlook and compliance with any applicable contractual obligations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Finance or Accounting

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years Financial Planning and Analysis or solid accounting experience in a capital intensive industry

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

SKILLS:

  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Keyboard Skills (Typing, data entry, etc.)

  • SAP

JOB DUTIES:

  • Takes all the steps necessary to facilitate the annual capital budgeting process, including butnot limited to creation of all approved projects in SAP to allow for various departments toaccurately charge costs per policy.

  • Prepares monthly reporting package of capital projects with actual and forecasted spending

  • Ensures investment activities policy is followed in the approval of capital projects and budgetchanges.

  • Ensures upper management is informed of substantial deviations or changes from the originalor updated capital budget.

  • Ensures proper accounting standards are applied to fixed assets, trackage rights andmiscellaneous receivable transactions and reviews and approves monthly capital accountreconciliations.

  • Partners with Legal Compliance to routinely report on progress towards compliance with anycontractual obligations involving capital spending.

  • Verify and approve SAP Project System updates and work flow changes. Perform and approveUser Acceptance testing.
