Amec Foster Wheeler Safety Officer in Johannesburg, South Africa

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Safety Officer with extensive experience in the Mining industry to work on site in Saudi Arabia.

  • Provide daily reporting to HSSE Manager, and Construction Manager on request and compile weekly HSSE report and forward to functional manager

  • Inspect and sign off contractor HSSE Management Plan and provide advice to project personnel on strategies and problem solving on HSSE matters

  • Provide technical advice on matters relating to industrial hygiene, safety and environmental matters and ensure safety programs comply with project specification, legal requirements, standards and policies

  • Assist the HSSE Manager for the roll out of HSSE information related to site activities

  • Manage HSSE issues in designated area of responsibility on site and conduct Safety Interventions

  • Participate in bi-weekly HSSE coordination meetings and bi-weekly HSSE management and contractor safety walkabouts

  • Attend daily/weekly progress meetings associated in the area of responsibility

  • Conduct inspections on work permits; ensuring current and documentation maintained

  • Monitor daily contractor crew talks and weekly contractor tool box talks

  • Monitor safe work procedures, verifying contractor compliance

  • Conduct risk management in the identification of hazards in the workplace and recommend corrective or preventive measures, including control systems to detect deviation from agreed HSSE policies and participate in incident investigations

  • Conduct site inspections related to waste disposal and industrial hygiene, protective clothing and the storage of dangerous chemicals and other substances

  • Provide technical advice on chemical and physical agent behaviour, impact and control as they effect the environment and health of employees and users

  • Inspection of work activities in compliance with Risk Assessments and assist with the investigation of accidents and incidents and coordinate corrective actions

  • Participate in site hazard inspections and ensure all contractors practice HSSE standards as required by the project

  • Minimum of 5-8 years hands-on experience in a construction environment, including projects in remote locations

  • Tertiary qualification in HSSE

  • Extensive knowledge of local HSSE legislation

  • Computer literate
