POSITION SUMMARY:This position is responsible for developing and maintaining strong business relationships with new and existing accounts in assigned territory. Responsibilities include achieving revenue and contribution goals by developing rail solutions for customers that benefit KCS and optimize the customer’s supply chain. Develop and execute account strategies and sales objectives.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, or commensurate experience required (Business or related preferred)

  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following: sales, rail, or logistics

  • 3+ years of account management experience

  • KCS network experience preferred, specifically in sales, marketing, customer relations, rail or logistics.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows including Word, PowerPoint and Excel (advanced user of Excel preferred). Advanced keyboarding skills required

  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to lead and collaborate across internal departments

  • Must have organizational skills and the ability to focus on detail-oriented information

  • Ability to negotiate complex agreements

  • Strong ability to identify and develop customer solutions

  • Bilingual - Spanish and English preferred

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

JOB DUTIES:

  • Serves as the main commercial contact for customers in assigned territory

  • Negotiates with customers in assigned territory

  • Develops account strategies and plans

  • Stays up-to-date on market, competition and trends

  • Increases revenue, market share and contribution margins to meet corporate goals; works to achieve operating ratio and net income objectives

  • Creates and manages client relationships at all levels

  • Handles all business development activities within assigned territory

  • Participates in relationship building events to foster strong customer and industry relationships

  • Identifies opportunities to sell across KCS services

  • May direct the work of other sales staff
