Leidos Sr. Aerodynamic Engineer in EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Florida
Leidos currently has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Aerodynamic Engineer in our Shalimar (Eglin), FL office.
The successful candidate will be performing Aerodynamic modeling and simulation and performance analysis. The candidate will apply their knowledge of aerodynamic modeling and simulation to:
a) develop morphing missile concepts and geometry model from an initial drawing or CAD model;
b) develop aerodynamic models using model ranging from empirical thru Euler and possibly RANS CFD;
c) develop linearized aerodynamic models to G&C personnel and verify implementation of the delivered aerodynamic model in 6DoF;
d) modify morphing missile design to improve performance within constraints;
e) collaborate with G&C personnel performing missile flight performance analyses.
Candidate must have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or similar discipline and 12 plus years’ experience in guidance and control algorithm design, implementation, and testing in modeling and simulation.
Candidate should have the following skill set:
Complexity: develop innovative solutions to complex missile aerodynamic problems thru research and integration of best practices. Employ ingenuity and creativity to apply advanced aerodynamic models to develop missile solutions that achieve customer performance objectives.
Communication: Must communicate with Leidos aerodynamics, seeker, and guidance and control personnel, and interact daily with customer program leadership and team members. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.
Knowledge: Experience with aerodynamic models such as Missile DATCOM, Cart3D Euler, and Kestrel, FUN3D or equivalent is required. Ability to perform gridding of complex aerodynamically controlled missiles with articulating components is required. Ability to utilize DoD DSRC capabilities is required. Demonstrated experience developing and integrating aerodynamic models into a 6DoF analysis is required.
Clearance: Candidate must possess an active Secret clearance, or be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable period of time.
Following is desired but not required:
Fifteen or more years’ experience preferred.
