Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Supplier Engineering Development (SED) department is looking for a highly motivated and qualified Principal Engineer for Coatings.

The primary responsibility for this role is to support SED in the leadership of high risk parts production preparation and cost reduction.

The person in this role will be responsible to develop tooling/process to achieve the highest level of productivity and quality capability.

What you'll be doing:

  • Decide best process direction considering the ideal to the current supplier process condition

  • Tooling/equipment/process modifications to achieve highest level of productivity and quality which can be sustained

  • Process benchmarking and skill advancement

  • KPI achievement for core commodity parts

  • Technical Expertise support for problem solving

  • Coaching / teaching team members within the group and at suppliers in process planning and problem solving

  • Plan, check and modify direction of new model projects to meet established targets through direct and indirect involvement with team members, supplier members and supplier management

  • Production engineering support to supplier as well as project management from first off-tool part to Start of Production

  • Identify gaps in operational plan execution and secure resources and / or knowledge to close the gaps

  • Support the development and execution of operational plans

  • Negotiation with supplier on process improvement direction

  • Completing change points in timely manner given master schedule and timing of program

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical field or 10 years of equivalent experience with Paint / Coatings in a Manufacturing environment

  • Experience in Manufacturing, engineering, and /or tooling

  • Experience with Plastics Coating and Top Coat Paint Process development of A class surfaces

  • New Model Launch experience with exposure to outside groups and their roles and responsibilities

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with Toyota New Model development

  • Experience with robotic application of coatings

  • Experience with chrome plating of plastic parts
