Henry Ford Health System Physician Assistant - Surgical Services/Operating Room (1.0 Full Time Days - Clinton Township Campus) in Clinton Township, Michigan
Within Henry Ford Health System, the Surgical Physician's Assistant functions as part of a medical/surgical care team within the Operating Room/Surgical Services. Assists pre, intra, and post-care of all surgical patients. Prepares and records patient histories, performs rounds and physical examinations, records discharge summaries, assists in all surgical procedures, assists intra-operatively and formulates post-operative treatment plans for patients. Specific procedures within the specialty are individually credentialed, based on background training and experience. Obtains medical history and performs physical examinations as requested by supervising physician. Orders and monitors laboratory tests, x-rays and special examinations as necessary for evaluation of patient’s condition and reports findings to the supervising physician. Develops, initiates and monitors treatment plans including medications. As the First Assistant, directly assists the attending surgeon with exposure, retraction and counter retraction of tissue. Assists in the process of bypass grafting, as well as, monitor the patient’s vital signs. For off-pump procedures, will assist in positioning of the heart, assists in bypass grafting and monitoring vital signs. During robotic procedures, will function as the bedside assistant responsible for monitoring the patient’s condition, positioning the robot, exchanging instruments, as well as, assisting throughout the procedure.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor's Degree. Completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant or Surgeon's Assistant program; and Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA). Requires good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as organizational skills, familiarity with computers, and excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to react to crisis situations quickly and effectively using department protocols and guidelines.
Orthopedic and robotic experience highly preferred.
