About the Unit
Unit Job Summary

The Research Professional 1 will engage in a variety of scientific research projects related to cancer and other areas of Pathology investigation. Design and conduct research for developing next generation sequencing methods. Translate scientific findings to clinically useful tests and knowledge for patient care. Develop advanced skills related to scientific hypothesis formulation, testing and application to samples derived from the patient materials. Present research findings at local and national scientific conferences and weekly laboratory meetings. Lead or participate in University of Chicago Seminar Weekly Series. Collaborate with peers and other faculty in research and publication


Ph.D. or educational equivalent required. Ph.D. in molecular biology or molecular genetics preferred.




Advanced knowledge in relevant scientific field required. Advanced knowledge of research techniques or methods required. Advanced skills in molecular biology required, ideally with next generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation experience. Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures required. Analytical skills required. Problem-solving skills required. Attention to detail required. Organizational skills required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to write and communicate clear and complete research findings required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team required. Proficient knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheets, database software, power point, statistics and other softwares used in scientific research analysis required.

Knowledge and experience in translational research strongly preferred. Experience in imaging and cell biology are a plus. Knowledge and skills in bioinformatics are desirable but not required.
