This position WILL go full-time for the ideal candidate. The ideal candidate will coordinate the non-profit's program that is focused on immigration counseling and legal services to immigrants interested in becoming naturalized in this country. This position will provide immigration advising and services to both refugees and immigrants. Immigration advising and services will include, among others, family-based immigration petitions, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) requests, U Visas and VAWA self-petitions. Duties/Responsibilities: Legal Services and Support

  • Assess individuals' eligibility for naturalization;

  • Assist individuals with the completion of their naturalization applications;

  • Provide immigration advising by assessing individuals' eligibility for immigration benefits and with the completion of their immigration applications;

  • Explain relevant policies and case procedure to individuals;

  • Act as legal contact for agencies collaborating in citizenship grants;

  • Provide legal oversight at community-based citizenship workshops that are held on Saturdays on a monthly basis for a total of about ten times per year;

  • Recruit and train volunteer attorneys for the monthly community-based citizenship workshops;

  • Train non-legal volunteers to complete applications for naturalization at citizenship workshops;

  • Perform factual and legal research and regularly monitor developments in immigration law and procedure;

  • Advocate for clients before USCIS. Program Coordination

  • Participate in meetings with other agencies providing naturalization services, as needed;

  • Track and record necessary data to be able to generate monthly reports;

  • Assist with recruiting and training of interns who will help the position achieve its goals;

  • Supervise interns assisting with the citizenship program and other services;

  • Complete monthly grant reports, as needed. Administration

  • Input client information in the ILS database and maintain organized case files;

  • Participate in regular department and staff meetings;

  • Other duties as assigned. Outreach

  • Occasionally participate in community education programs

  • Occasionally inform the local church about ILS services and case stories, and recruit volunteers, by means of informational presentations and outreach events.

  • Occasional lobby efforts with legislators, which could include press conferences, city hall meetings, day trips to Springfield. Qualifications:

  • Licensed attorney or B.A. with previous Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) accredited representative status at a non-profit organization or enough relevant training and experience in immigration and naturalization law to be able to immediately apply for BIA accreditation;

  • Highly detail oriented and self-directed with strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required;

  • Strong relational skills and cross-cultural understanding;

  • Program development, management, and implementation experience preferred;
