Role Description

Pfizer is incorporating advanced computational approaches to accelerate evidence-based drug discovery & development by capitalizing on high-dimensional data sets of molecular and population health data to target therapeutic approaches to the right patient population and disease indication.The Biomedical Data Scientist will engage with biomedical and computational researchers from across the organization to understand scientific/technological challenges and develop innovative approaches to solve them. The Biomedical Data Scientist will be an expert in data and computation who will:Apply a broad array of capabilities spanning machine learning, statistics, mathematics, modeling, simulation, text-mining/NLP, data-mining, pathway/network analysis.Identify novel solutions to internal data challenges including the evaluation of tools for data engineering and data visualization.He/she will partner with Human Genetics, Computational Biomedicine, Clinical Data Sciences and Business Technology to identify, scope and implement solutions impacting a broad range of activities supporting target identification, validation and precision medicine efforts with a particular focus on the use of clinical trial data and electronic health records (EHRs).


Biomedical Data Scientist will provide capabilities in complex, integrated data and information analyses that support discovery and Early Clinical Development stratification efforts to deconstruct phenotypic correspondence to molecular & physiological mechanism. Role responsibilities include:-Work on inter-disciplinary teams across ESTO and disease areas including Cardiovascular & Metabolism, Inflammation and Immunology, Neurosciences and Rare Diseases to make use of experimental data, clinical trial data, and information from EHRs for complex multidimensional data analysis to inform target id, biomarker identification and patient stratification.-Provide technical expertise in Bayesian/probabilistic modeling, deep learning (and "Cognitive Computing"), and mechanistic modeling. -Collaborate on the use of emerging 'Omics technologies (*-Seq, microbiome) and their integration with contextual patient and pathway datasets. Use computational expertise to guide deployment of new technologies such as CRISPR and gene therapy.-Work with Business Technologies, Computational Biomedicine and Clinical Data Science colleagues to shape the organization's data architecture and ecosystem to be more productive in supporting cross-WRD activities. -Work with the Human Genetics & Computational Target Validation groups in the integrated use of G2P data towards target identification & validation, & patient stratification.


B.Sc. with 7 years of experience or M.Sc. with 5 years of experience or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, relevant natural sciences. All candidates with suitable technical backgrounds will be considered. Desired Data Science Capabilities:-Ability to prototype analyses and algorithms in a high level languages (R, Python, Haskell)-Ability to use and advance machine learning / deep learning methods.-Familiar with foundations of probabilistic/Bayesian modeling and computational statistics.-Exposure to NLP technologies and analyses-Understanding of causal inference-Ability to write fast (C or C code) when necessary-Ability to interact with RESTful APIs & Databases (SQL, NoSQL)-Knowledge of some datavis technologies (ggplot2, shiny, d3, Tableau or Spotfire)Desired Data Engineering Skills:-Ability to develop / prototype analytics pipelines and web services (Spark, Python, Scala, Haskell)-Ability to configure and run database systems (SQL, NoSQL)-Ability to build frontend systems for interactive visualization (javascript, D3, purescript, elm)-Knowledge of container technologies and cloud computing-Knowledge of modern functional programming developmentDesirable experience with the following:Workflow platforms (e.g. Pipeline Pilot, KNIME, Dataiku)Pharmaceutical research experience, especially experience handling clinical trial data (including experience with SAS)Strong oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment.
