Employee Services provides strategic leadership in the areas of Human Resources, Talent Management, Organizational Development and Total Compensation. As the Team Lead, Human Resources Advisors you will provide value-added HR services that support the strategic direction of the organization and will assist in positioning SAIT as an employer of choice. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, you will take a multi-disciplinary approach when advising, developing and delivering HR strategies and projects to the team of HR Advisors. You will also be assigned a client portfolio. Partnering with client groups, you are responsible for implementing and participating in initiatives related to retention, classification, organizational design, employee and labour relations, performance management, learning and development, engagement and well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the HR Advisors in providing exceptional service and advice to their client portfolios.

  • Direct, coach and train a team of HR Advisors to create a high performance culture that instills service focus, quality and continuous process improvement.

  • Provide team members role clarity, establish expectations that drive alignment with the Employee Services vision, and ensure those expectations are executed through the performance management process.

  • Assist team members and clients with resolving employee and labour relations issues on matters including performance management, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline.

  • Support HR Advisors in partnering with clients to achieve business objectives by identifying HR and organizational development opportunities.

  • Plan, schedule, and allocate resources to effectively and efficiently meet objectives.

  • Assist HR Advisors in partnering with leaders in driving culture change, enhancing organizational effectiveness, and developing change management capability.

  • Align all communication to support organizational objectives.

  • Support the grievance process and provide general guidance and support on employment legislation to HR Advisors and leaders.

  • Continue to develop professionally to remain current in HR trends, legislation and practices in order to provide excellent advice.

  • Special Projects: accountabilities will include researching, creating, updating, communicating and managing any programs or procedures associated with the special project.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations or related field required.

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ HR Business Partner experience with a minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience.

  • Experience in a complex unionized environment is a must.

  • Strong leadership, supervisory skills and business consulting skills.

  • Demonstrated issues management, project management, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation (CPHR) completed or in progress is preferred.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven ability to coach, partner and influence leaders, managers & staff.

  • Must possess extensive knowledge in: labour and employee relations, interpreting collective agreements, HR policy development, employment legislation and regulations, and HR/Talent Management best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, establish alternatives and determine the optimal course of action in the context of broader business strategies and objectives.

  • Excellent decision making ability with demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively within the team.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal, as well as strong facilitation skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion, while building trust and upholding confidentiality.

  • Possess strong business acumen, conflict intervention and resolution/mediation skills.

  • Enthusiasm, energy and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Well-developed prioritization, time management and multi-tasking skills.

  • A high degree of flexibility to adapt to multiple and competing priorities.

  • Outstanding attention to detail, follow-up and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and drive projects to completion.
