The Communications and Marketing department supports the achievement of priorities in SAIT's strategic plan, tells SAIT’s story, enhances our brand and executes on marketing strategy across SAIT, in collaboration with schools and departments. We continually seek to raise the bar, improve our practices and showcase creativity.

As the Senior Stakeholder & Relations Specialist, you will report to the Associate Director, Communications and Marketing and you will lead the development and implementation of high-level strategic integrated communications and marketing plans and initiatives. You will at times act as the backup to the Associate Director and will work closely with the department’s other senior level roles to ensure communications (internal, external, earned media and social) are aligned to SAIT’s strategic priorities. As the Senior Stakeholder and Public Relations Specialist you will also lead earned media relations and act as SAIT’s spokesperson.

You must be a flexible and detail-oriented professional with excellent communication skills — both a strategist and a doer who gets excited by new ideas, is a strong collaborator, as well as an independent self-starter. You will effectively manage and lead multiple concurrent priorities and use a high level of professionalism when working with sensitive and confidential matters.

NOTE: This is an Internal Competition for the Employees of SAIT Only.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement high-level strategic integrated communications and marketing plans that align to SAIT’s strategic priorities

  • Project manage the execution of the plans which includes collaborating across the department and campus, active communications and marketing plans

  • Champion and exercise collaboration within the department and across the campus to facilitate and maximize effective content sharing, and appropriately positioned and timed communications.

  • Help manage the day to day workgroup activities

  • Identify client and stakeholder needs and priorities, collaborate to generate solutions and make decisions

  • Support the Associate Director and provide back-up when the Associate Director is unavailable

  • Support executive as requested, including crisis communications

  • Provide guidance and support to team members

  • Lead earned media relations and act as SAIT’s spokesperson

  • Cultivate and maintain positive rapport with media representatives, responding promptly to requests, and pitching strategic stories and maintaining a current database of media contacts

  • Act as SAIT spokesperson and prepare other spokespeople for success, as appropriate

  • Monitor current and emerging news/trends, recognize how they relate to SAIT and act on the appropriate opportunities

  • Organize media briefings, editorial board meetings, news conferences, and public relations events

  • Maintain a clear and concise public relations component to SAIT’s Crisis Communications Plan

  • Write releases, advisories, backgrounders, talking points, web and social content, fact sheets, photos, speeches and b-roll

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, Public Relations or Communications.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, client relations, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in a senior role, working with executives preferably in the communications field

  • Demonstrated creative and strategic thinking, while exhibiting sound judgment

  • Excellent verbal, written communications and critical thinking skills

  • In-depth understanding of SAIT strategic priorities and brand

  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders

  • Experienced, confident spokesperson and media coach

  • Demonstrated experience in communications and issue management planning

  • Extensive and favourable relationships with media

  • Experience in producing high-quality communication materials for all mediums

  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and evolving environment

  • Must be able to effectively manage competing priorities

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office
