Role Description

This position reports into the R&D Global Analytical Sciences organization and will support the development of new medical devices and related consumer products. In this role, the researcher will lead the evaluation of raw materials, products in development, and established products in the field of medical devices. Strong critical thinking is required and the successful candidate should be able to independently plan and conduct statistically robust experiments and present findings in summary presentations or detailed reports as needed. The researcher will develop new or build on current methodologies when necessary.The individual will work closely with Product Designers in ThermaCare and will interface with the larger Pfizer Consumer Healthcare Analytical function. The role also contains a significant innovation component and the individual will be called upon to provide input into the design of new, consumer-centric products.


Designs and conducts experiments to support the development of medical devices in the over-the-counter marketplace.In developing new medical devices, responsibilities include; establishing product requirements, detailed design, design verification and validation, engineering testing, design for manufacturability, working with suppliers and conducting feasibility studies of the design to determine ability to function as intended.Responsible for developing new analytical methods to characterize unique developmental prototypes. This will require working closely with equipment vendors and outside industry experts as well as project technologists.Member of technical workgroups to develop new product and explore business opportunities. Effectively translates consumer and technical needs into technical models and prototypes.Lead point of contact to analytical colleagues associated with the ThermaCare brand (i.e., in manufacturing and at other R&D sites).Individual will be responsible for developing site specific SOPs to most effectively operate the analytical function at a remote site. They will need to integrate corporate SOPs and determine where it is necessary to follow or develop a separate procedure.Individual will scale up developmental methods for use in finished product release for clinical studies and manufacturing, when appropriate. Analyzes data, prepares technical reports, and presents findings.Trains other scientists on specific procedures or techniques.


Engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical) and equivalent in R&D and manufacturing experience or equivalent work experience is required: PhD degree with 3 years relevant experienceMS degree with 5 years of relevant experience BS degree with 7 years of relevant experience Experience in the development of medical devices. Individual should have practical laboratory skills, instrumention experience, a basic understanding of engineering principles including thermodynamics, heat transfer, statistics and scientific principles. Individual should have Solidworks design experience.Perferred candidates should also demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills and should be proficient in computer applications for report generation, data acquisition and data analysis. Individual must have strong written and oral communication skills and organizational skills and demonstrate ability for thorough documentation.*The ability to travel to fulfill business needs approximately 15% of the time as required.
