Job Responsibilities:

This position is a supervisory classified position. It is a working supervisor position that supervises a custodial crew of twelve members and approximately 400,000 square feet of facilities including Football Operations, Alex Box Stadium, Softball, the Natatorium, old and new Tennis facilities, Bernie Moore Track, Indoor Field House, Golf and SportsShop.

65% Supervises and inspects the custodial work performed by subordinates. Schedules work time, assigns cleaning duties and area of responsibility for a number of custodians. Approves or disapproves leave; set priorities for leave approval. Keeps and maintains time and attendance records; Issues cleaning supplies as needed. Keeps records relating to supply and equipment usage. Makes recommendations to management for materials and equipment. Provides orientation and on the job and in services training to new employees and student workers.

15% Reports needed building or equipment repairs to Management or appropriate maintenance personnel using established procedures. Supervises the power washing of building, walks, windows and other exterior surfaces of building. May supervise student workers in these activities. May drive agency vehicles to transport custodial workers, or supplies and equipment.

10% Responsible for the safe keeping of keys used in the locking and unlocking of the building. Responsible for locking and unlocking of the building

5% Supervises the rearrangement, moving and cleaning of furniture and fixtures by custodial crews; Supervises custodial crew in setting up and taking down furniture and fixtures used for special events.

5% Performs any other duties necessary to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of buildings and grounds

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience in custodial, housekeeping, or food service work.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Must be capable of moving about in a 58,000 sq. ft. building multiple times daily to clean and prepare locker rooms, office space, training rooms, spectator seating and exterior sidewalks, playing surfaces and common area. The person must be able to stand for extended periods during cleaning processes. They must also be capable to stoop, kneel, and crouch to pick up litter, retrieve equipment, and clean restrooms, offices, lobbies, and maintain floors. This person should be capable of moving furniture that weighs 20 to 40 lbs. Will use arms/hands to operate floor/power equipment used in preparing and maintaining floors. Will work with and be exposed to common cleaning products. Ability to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Custodian Supervisor 1 by responsibility for direct supervision over a custodian crew composed of 8-15 Custodians performing custodian duties in state buildings having between 160,000-300,000 square feet.

Differs from Custodian Supervisor 3 by lack of responsibility for supervising a custodian crew composed of 18-25 Custodians and subordinate Custodian Supervisors performing custodian duties in state buildings having 320,000-460,000 square feet.

Note: When job assignments do not fall exactly within the above criteria, allocation decisions will be determined on a case by case basis.

Examples of Work

Supervises the work performed by Custodian Supervisors and Custodians in directing floor maintenance operations in large agencies with numerous buildings and custodial employees.

Assists administrators in the preparation of service-related budgets, if required.

Keeps and maintains time, attendance, cost effectiveness building services, and floor maintenance records.

Makes recommendations to supervisors concerning new cleaning solutions, floor maintenance equipment, and related floor maintenance matters.

Conducts in service training classes for Custodians, Custodian Supervisors, and housekeeping personnel in proper methods of custodial and floor maintenance.

Performs related duties necessary for the proper maintenance of floors.
